Airborne Targeting and Collision Avoidance

Completely passive technology to identify and track airborne targets

Pathfinder is developing visual and IR-based remote sensing technology for aircraft using both a single and multi-camera approach. Our technology provides fully passive target tracking and engagement for military aircraft and airborne collision avoidance for military and general aviation. Our technology is sensor-agnostic and detects all non-cooperative aircraft and UAS.

Capability

Our system detects, tracks, and determines a target's bearing, speed, and range, while providing continuous future trajectory estimates

Our low SWaP system is capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously against a cluttered background, day or night. The sensor pod is small enough to fit into an existing AIM-9 missile shell, enabling easy integration.

Flight-tested Performance

Demonstrated feasibility in low-and high-speed flight tests

  • Single and multiple targets

  • Mounted on aircraft, UAS, and AIM-9 inert missiles

  • Demonstrated target detection at 14 nautical miles

Collision Avoidance

For the general aviation market, this technology allows for a low SWAP add-on for both airliners and personal aircraft to prevent deadly mid-air collisions.

Drones also benefit from a dedicated air-to-air avoidance system to maneuver around
non-cooperating aircraft.

 A Unique Approach

  • Passive sensing of aircraft

  • Developed from actual, verified flight data

  • Interfaces with existing avionics and COTS sensors

  • Integrates aerodynamic modeling with deep learning

  • Physics based, real-time, 3D model of ownship space

 Multi-Use & Low Cost

  • UAS Detect and Avoid

  • Increased Safety & Situational Awareness for manned aircraft

  • Drone detection during vulnerable flight stages
